Cheruthuruthy's accommodation is limited, with some students staying as guests in private accommodation or at the new on-site, self-catering International Hostel (Rs900-1500). The village has a couple of simple guesthouses and the atmospheric Government Rest House (phone 0488/462760; up to Rs100), a short distance along the Shoranur road from Kalamandalam, has eight vast and very basic rooms, some with Western-style toilets, and all sharing a veranda. The bustling and unattractive town of Shoranur has more options but none that could capture the charm of Cheruthuruthy and its environs. Food may be available by arrangement, and there are simple "meals" shops in the village; of these, the Mahatma , serving vegetarian food, is by far the best; if you want meat try the Shalimar close by. Buses heading to Shoranur from Thrissur's Wadakkancheri stand stop outside Kalamandalam, just before Cheruthuruthy. The nearest railway station is Shoranur Junction, 3km south. It's on the main line and served by express trains to and from Mangalore, Chennai and all major stations south of here on the coastal route through Kerala.
