Thrissur's railway station is 1km southwest of Round South, near the KSRTC long-distance bus stand. Priya Darshini (also known as "North", "Shoranur" and "Wadakkancheri") bus station, close to Round North, serves Palakkad and Shoranur. The Shakthan Thampuran stand, on TB Road, 2km from Round South, serves local destinations south such as Irinjalakuda, Kodungallur and Guruvayur. The DTPC tourist office (Mon-Sat 10am-5pm) is on Palace Road, opposite the Town Hall (five minutes' walk off Round East). Run on a voluntary basis, its primary purpose is to promote the elephant festival, but they also give out maps of Thrissur. KTDC have a small information counter at the Yatri Niwas hotel, Stadium Road (phone 0487/332333). If you need to change money,the main branch of the State Bank of Travancore (Mon-Fri 10am-2pm, Sat 10am-noon) on the second floor next to the Paramekkavu temple, Round East, accepts American Express travellers' cheques, but not Thomas Cook or Mastercard. |
Opposite the same temple, the State Bank of India (same hours) changes dollars and sterling as well as travelers' cheques and the Canara Bank on South Road also changes money. The GPO is on the southern edge of town, near the Casino Hotel off TB Road. Internet facilities are available at the excellent Internet Thrissur.Com, 2nd floor, City Centre Shopping Complex, Round West (daily 9am until 10pm; Rs45/hr).
